3 Advanced Search Techniques for Writing In-Depth Articles
For business people and professionals, writing an in-depth article is a great way to be seen as an authority on your subject. But how do you go about finding new and important information? Instead of the same top ten search results, there is a better way to get more relevant data. When I was a kid and had to do a report for class, I was always amazed how so many of the students came up with the same basic information. Years later, I realized it was because our parents had all bought us the same encyclopedias. The same goes today. Most people will just do a basic Google search and look for links on the first page. Unfortuna...

What to use instead of NICE Evidence Search - a first thought
I have been promoting NICE Evidence Search much more systematically this year to " my " first year undergraduates in their first library session.  It is also on the resource lists I ' ve made for each of their courses.  I like the idea that there is one source, where all the results have been evaluated by health information professionals, and I ' ve suggested it ' s a good first place to search for any health topic.  But NICE Evidence Search is closing at the end of March 2022.  So what to use instead?NICE Evidence Search has two lists of sources, one of sites where some of the content is...

Stage of Gestation at Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infection of Pregnant Swine Impacts Maternal Immunity and Lactogenic Immune Protection of Neonatal Suckling Piglets
In this study, we infected pregnant first parity gilts in their first, second and third trimesters of gestation with PEDV to determine the impact of stage of gestation on generation of maternal B-cell immunity, the gut-MG-sIgA axis and lactogenic immune protection in PEDV challenged piglets. Our goal was to identify innate and adaptive immune factors during pregnancy that influence lymphocyte trafficking, in addition to immune correlates of lactogenic immune protection in neonatal suckling piglets. Understanding the impact of stage of gestation at PEDV infection or exposure on maternal immunity will allow more precise mate...

Short term exposure to low amounts of airway irritants in a swine confinement building and inflammatory markers in blood and exhaled air.
Conclusions. Airway response can be measured after lower exposure to airborne irritants in swine confinement buildings than previously known. Further research is needed to assess whether this finding can be utilized for preventive purposes. PMID: 25292113 [PubMed - in process]

High Power Microwave Ablation of Normal Swine Lung: Impact of Duration of Energy Delivery on Adverse Event and Heat Sink Effects.
CONCLUSION: High power MWA of normal lung with longer duration of energy delivery can create larger spherical ablations, without significant differences in post-procedure AEs when compared with shorter energy delivery time. PMID: 29490524 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Intraoperative Cerenkov Luminescence Imaging for Image-Guided Resection of Low Rectal Cancer on Swine Models
Conclusions An intraoperative CLI system with high resolution and sensitivity was successfully developed for image-guided resection of low rectal cancer on swine models. The intraoperative CLI system exhibits high potential for image-guided resection of low rectal cancer in clinic. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Improving Survival and Alleviating Kidney Injury in a Swine Model of Cardiac Arrest Compared to Conventional Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Conclusions: Compared with CCPR, ECMO improves survival rate and alleviates AKI in a swine model of CA. The mechanism of which might be via downregulating AKI biomarkers and apoptosis in kidney. PMID: 30058582 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of three different bariatric obesity surgery procedures on nutrient and energy digestibility using a swine experimental model
Morbid obesity is a worldwide health concern that compromises life quality and health status of obese human subjects. Bariatric surgery for treating morbid obesity remains as one of the best alternatives to promote excess weight loss and to reduce co-morbidities. We have not found studies reporting nutrients and energy balance considering digestibility trials in humans following surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine protein, lipid, fiber, energy, calcium, and phosphorous digestibility in a swine model that underwent ileal transposition (IT), sleeve gastrectomy with ileal transposition (SGIT), Roux-en-Y gastri...

Interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy of the lung: evaluation of the influence of ablation continuity on ablation size in a swine model.
Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between size and the continuity of energy application in interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy. Percutaneous computed tomography-guided laser ablation (30 W, 600 nm diode) of the lung was performed in 7 Yorkshire pigs; a total of 42 ablation zones were created. Twenty ablations were performed using a continuous cycle of 2 min (protocol A) and 22 ablations were performed using 4 intermittent cycles with a duration of 1 min for each cycle interrupted by a 10-s stop between the cycles (protocol B). The lung was harvested immediately after euthanasia...

Swine Study Shows That Moderate Exercise During Pregnancy Can Affect Ovarian Cells
A short walk around the barn might improve the future fertility of Yorkshire gilts. According to research presented by Samantha Kaminski, a graduate student at North Dakota State University, swine fetuses showed significant ovarian development after their mothers exercised. Kaminski and fellow researchers already knew that uterine blood flow could affect blood flow to the ovaries of developing fetuses. To further study the relationship between uterine blood flow and ovary development, Kaminski and fellow researchers designed an experiment to increase blood flow through exercise...

Efficacy and safety of a new single-port model for appendectomy: Experimental study on swine
Conclusion: The surgical technique used with the single port showed no differences in safety and efficacy. Though it does require more CO2use, its working dynamics did not lead to increased operative times. The results were similar between the two surgeons in the study, suggesting that they can be reproduced.

Occupational Exposure Risk for Swine Workers in Confined Housing Facilities.
Authors: Vincent SK, Mazur JM, Summey TE, Namkoong K, Byrd AP Abstract In an effort to change unsafe tractor operating behaviors among Appalachian youth resulting from practices and habits learned through a socialization process (termed an "apprenticeship of observation"), this study implemented a four-part intervention in high school agricultural education classes that included implementation of a cost-effective rollover protective structure (CROPS) curriculum. The curriculum included farm safety information, specific NIOSH plans for CROPS construction, and procedures for CROPS installation on unprotected tractors...
